Finland and China are friendly countries. The two countries established diplomatic relationship in October 1950. Since then bilateral trade people exchange have been expanding constantly. Looking forward to China’s bright future of development. Varkaus hopes to enhance extansive exchange and co-operation with China in politics, economy, science & technology and culture. In October 2003, a government delegation from Varkaus visited Lu’an, the two sides reached upon an agreement of intent to establish relationship of friendly city. In Septemper 2004, a delegation from Lu’an municipal Government visited Varkaus and formally signed the agreement of establishing friendly-city relationship between Lu’an and Varkaus.
Varkaus is a town with 25.000 people in middle Finland in Northern Europe . It is located in the middle of the magnificent Finnish Lakeland landscape. Approximately one third of the town´s total area consists of water, and that asset can be enjoyed by fishing, swimming or basking in the sun amidst beautiful Saimaa lake scenery. An excellent fishing place is in the middle of the town. The deep fairway of Lake Saimaa passes through the town with marinas serving boaters. The fairway is crossed by the Komminselkä arch bridge with a height of 24,5 metres and a length of 480 metres .
Varkaus is located in the southeast of the Republic of Finland. It was founded as a town in 1929, and formally founded in 1962. The total area of the city is 112km2 with water covering one-fourth of the total area. The population in urban area is 23,000. Added with that is suburb, total population is 50,000. The annual per capita income is Euro 7700.
Varkaus is a highly industrialzed city. The first industrial enterprise was founded in Varkaus in 1815, since then, the industry og wood processing, casting and machinary manufacturing has been developing rapidly. The main industry of the city covers forests(wood processing and paper making), energy, printing and manufaturing of environment protecting equipment. There are over 1300 industrial and commercial enterprises in Varkaus. Among which many are world-famous such as Stora Enso, Honey well, Foster Wheeler, Mesto, Tellbs, ABB, Elektribit and Andriz etc. Now Varkaus has developed into a city of high-tech, the center of economy and international exchange in the east area of Finland. It has established friendly city relationship with city of Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Russia and China.
